Sometimes they come back...

For it is of old rumour that the soul of the devil-bought hastens not from his charnel clay, but fats and instructs the very worm that gnaws; till out of corruption horrid life springs, and the dull scavengers of earth wax crafty to vex it and swell monstrous to plague it.

Well, what do you know? My powers of necrogeekery are clearly better than I thought. After performing certain unspeakeable and esoteric rites last night i.e. I slapped it around a bit, it seems Dagon, my PDA, has risen from the grave - it was doing it intermittently but failing to power on again reliably but has survived all day today. It is indeed vooming and I didn't even have to put 10,000 Volts through it! Probably shouldn't count on it living much longer so I guess I shall be continuing to scout out possible replacements...

So, went to Aberdeen today. Didn't get more than 3 miles from the airport. Saw the airport, an industrial estate and a road in between. BA were offering packed snacks as catering is still not back in action on this route. Outcome: I think I now know way more about the operations of an oil field than I ever thought I would...

Here's a question: if you saw a mail header with the subject "Attempting to contact", would you have immediately thought "spam"? I did and nearly deleted it straight off. Turns out to be from a headhunter referred to me by an ex-colleague. Maybe I'll mention this when I speak to him ;-)

Interesting little quirk of the 6680 - seems that Nokia has consigned infrared to the dustbin of history. It's Bluetooth or USB cable only for connectivity! Also pretty handy, using the phone as a MP3 player, especially as it has an offline mode - switches off telecoms functions for use on Tube and plane (even the BA cabin staff mentioned offline modes in their usual takeoff briefings!). Handover to the 6680 is going pretty well so far, just trying to figure out how/if I can transfer my archived SMS messages from the 6600. There's too many little gems on there to simply erase. Need to do it soon though. David is openly coveting it...
