In the meantime, I cracked the digitiser screen (display still worked fine but no screen input possible) on my Toshiba e740 PocketPC while at Starfury White Room the weekend before last. Toshiba quoted me a price of ~£200 to repair it. A new e740 can be had for around that price. I was seriously looking at something like the Dell Axim X30 or HP iPaq 4150 as a result. I then found a guy in Holland selling a replacement LCD module for Toshiba PocketPCs. I bought it for ~£50, spent a fraught hour or so opening up the e740 and fitting it last night (there's at least 3 different types of ribbon cable connector in there!) and it all works fine once more. I am no longer feeling traumatised by being PDA-less.
Toshiba has definitely shot right to the top of my shit list though.
