Next, more stuff from Hong Kong:
My sister's started dragging me to the gym in her apartment block. At ~6.30am. Ouch. Well, it's painful but maybe it'll mean I won't be such a wreck when I get back to fencing. In any case, going to the gym more frequently or even at all was going to be a New Year's Resolution. This will simply be getting a headstart.

Yesterday, my parents and I headed down to Aberdeen. Definitely a big contrast to South Bay/Repulse Bay. Very definitely Chinese territory! We ended up stuffing ourselves stupid with dim sum at a place called the Hsin Kuang Restaurant, all for the princely sum of HK$190 (~£17) for all three of us! Wow...

Another odd thing was that, while it's definitely cooler than when I was last here, it was still warm enough that I was stripping down to a t-shirt, as was my mother. And yet, all the people around us were still wearing coats, scarves and so on! In fact, the only other people we've ever seen wearing t-shirts here have been gweilo! What do the people here know that we don't? :-O

Anyway, by contrast, dinner was with sister and friends at Le Parisien down at the International Finance Centre, with a great view of Hong Kong harbour at night. The HK$190 for lunch wouldn't even cover one main course! One interesting topic of conversation was that each of us had to say if we'd had a good year. My answer was that, from a personal view, yes - I've had a lot of fun, normally, I'd have got to do just one or two of the things I did, due to work/holiday constraints. From a professional perspective, well, I guess I should have been job hunting...

And the Looi Fnar Fnar Award for this trip (so far), goes to a chain of clothing stores called... Wanko. Yep, you read that right. Photo of sign available for anyone who doubts me...

Lastly, today, we were down in Wan Chai to pick up my passport (and visa for Guangzhou). We were early so I stopped by UN Company, an airsoft shop. Weird thing is that I didn't really feel any sense of "We wants it... we needs it". A vague interest in a second Glock 18c or maybe a Desert Eagle but no more than that. Huh. Maybe I've got as many guns as I need now!

Can't say I'm looking forward awfully to going to Guangzhou. Everything I've read about it suggests it's about as appealling as Mordor. However, my father has a vague notion about tracking down the ancestral village. I have this strong suspicion it'll have been turned into a steel factory or something by now...

And lastly, some web trawling has revealed the Finns are developing a Nintendoflage (digital/pixellated camouflage) of their own. Not sure what it's called, imagine it'll be something like FINNPAT or SUOMIPAT if the US and Canadian stuff is any sort of precedent.

Now this, we wants it, we needs it. But tricksy Finnses keeps close guards on it. Very hard to gets it. But eBay is our friend. eBay looks after us...
