Went to see Bon Jovi on Tuesday at the O2 with aeshna_uk, including a bit of a frantic dash back South from Newton-Le-Willows in the afternoon... I think it may have been 1995 since I last saw them. I was certainly wearing a 17-year old tour shirt, which from the look of things, might have been older than some of the people present!

It was a bit like catching up with old friends - we'd lost touch a few years back but, after a bit of catching on what they'd been up to the last few years, settling back into a comfortable routine. Needless to say, they were still superb live with a playlist covering their entire history, all the way back to their debut album. The focus was, of course, on the old standards although, maybe I've just been hanging round burntcopper too long but Jon Bon Jovi's and Richie Sambora's performance of I'll Be There For You was one of the slashiest things I've seen in a long time :-)

Have to say, the screens at the O2 were of superb quality and very versatile, constantly splitting up and moving around the stage. There were actually times when I mistook a life sized image on stage for one of the band! Great supporting graphics too. Only snag was sometimes they could be a bit distracting but I suspect essential for the guys up in the rear where I'm sure they must have needed sherpas and oxygen...

Even the support act, Kid Rock, was pretty good. Possibly the best country & western rocking rapper I've ever seen ;-)

Maybe I've just been spending too much time seeing er... lower profile acts like The Men They Couldn't Hang or The Levellers in recent years but the only real snag was the price of the tickets. There were packages going for hundreds of Pounds. Where we were, on the floor, about halfway back, wasn't too bad but, best of all, it turned out Ticketmaster was accepting AmEx points so I paid for it all with the points I largely accumulated a decade ago when I was commuting to Helsinki every week!

So, this post brought to you by Renaissance Worldwide and Nokia! ;-) We were also at the O2 to see Amateur Transplants last week and the option to use AmEx points was there too so maybe I need to see who else will be performing there soon :-)

All in all, a superb evening. Shame I had to be up at sparrowfart to get to Newbury in the morning.
