Primeval extinct

Bah. It would appear that Primeval's been canned. OK, so it was very much in the category of "It's not big and it's not clever" but it was enjoyable lightweight fun (not quite in the category of "It's shit but we like it"). Admittedly, the latter half of the season was a little disappointing (I blame the departure of Cutter and Jenny/Claudia) but it was pretty much the last remaining regular thing I watched on ITV! And Lucy Brown was very hot in a suit - probably explains why I was fonder of Claudia than Jenny ;-) Oh well...

Oh, drat! I was enjoying that. There's not much left that I do enjoy.

That surprises me, I thought it was one of ITVs most popular drama shows.

I guess the DVD sales have been disappointing, and they were hoping for Who-esque figures.

Other hypotheses that come to mind are:
  • The SFX must be expensive (well, compared with a reality/talent show anyway) and the show might therefore be less profitable than other things ITV is showing
  • There's been talk on Digital Spy and the like of film and US spinoffs (Stargate SG-1,000,000 Years BC, anyone?) - this could be ITV winding the UK show down in preparation for that
  • Someone's worked out that Primeval doesn't work anywhere near as well without Cutter/Doug Henshall
  • ITV is seriously strapped for cash right now, with declining advertising revenues etc so it's in panic slash-and-burn mode, irrespective of whether it's sensible from a longer term perspective

Betcha its panic slash and burn. Be surprised if ITV are making any original drama in 6 months time.

Apart from my personal annoyance that one of favourite shows has been axed, I think it's very poor business sense of ITV to cancel a hit show.

Though they shot themselves in the foot with this season anyway, airing one of the most important episodes against Doctor Who and then the postponement of the last one meant the DVD was in the shops before it aired!

There may still be hope this was in The Guardian a couple of weeks ago....

ITV could share cost of Primeval with rival digital channel

Personally it picked up for me after Cutter went. Danny has become a much more interesting and alert character and awakened my appeal in the show. I'm disappointed that they won't stretch it to another series to follow through with his character.

I think I may have caused its demise with bad luck!

As soon as I ordered 50 ARC patches for £120, thats when everything started going pear shaped!!! Typical..now ive got to shift them for a cancelled show.
Want to buy one £6 and £1.50 postage?

Friends cried when "Southern" lost its franchise;
LWT was almost mourned

Can ITV just die so C4 and C5 can get more revenue? It's not unthinkable: ITV is a zombie thinking it still rivals the BBC.

That was me... and by "die", I meant "completely"
