Looi Kin-Ming

(no subject)

Astounding opinion piece in the Philippine Inquirer today (Sat 12 Aug). Here's the final paragraph:

"Is our population getting to be predominantly pansy? Must we allow homosexuality to march unobstructed until we are converted into a nation of sexless persons without the virility of males or the grace of females but only an insipid mix of these diluted virtues? Let us be warned against the gay population, which is per se a compromise between the strong and the weak and not the absolute of either of the two qualities. Be alert lest the Philippine flag be made of delicate lace and adorned with embroidered frills."

:-O Oh my. I'm not in Kansas anymore. Or maybe I am...

And yesterday, there was an article on an assasination attempt on a left-wing activist. There's been a spate of them lately, with much suspicion of collusion or participation by the security forces. Apparently, the attackers got away because the pursuing police were unable to alert a roadblock up ahead because they were all out of credit for their mobile phones. So, the police were using mobiles and they *all* were out of credit at the same time? :-O A colleague also asked, "Why were they prepaid? Shouldn't they have been contract users anyway?"

I now have a lead on a tailor. Off to see just how hard they laugh when I ask about Galactica uniforms. Or maybe they'll ask if I'm "predominantly pansy"...

Observation: books and DVDs here seem to be remarkably cheap - even UK paperbacks appear to be around half the marked UK prices. Similarly, 2-disc edition of V For Vendetta is just over £7 at the first shop I saw it in (really doesn't look like a bootleg).

And this weekend, I am missing the multi-period re-enactment event at Kelmarsh...
