A Better Tomorrow 2

A few days ago, I noticed water streaming from the front path outside the house and onto the road. Been on the phone to Thames Water and insurance company. Looks like it's not a burst pipe but very badly clogged drains. Bad news is that means insurance almost certainly won't cover it. Sigh.

Got a gloriously vivid red bruise on my right arm from fencing last night. Scary thing is I think I know who did it and when but when Alexandra was all apologetic about possibly having hit me a bit hard, I waved her off and assured her if it was serious, she'd know about it as I tended not to suffer in silence. I think I may have been doing this too long.

Kate reminded me last night: next Friday we're off to see the Levellers in Basingstoke. She and Jo were asking pointed questions about how we were getting there. I refused to be railroaded though and said I'd check on the road and train options...

Health insurance providers

So, anyone here have UK private health insurance and, if so, who is the supplier. Basically, been tasked with specifying my own health insurance and wondering who else does it apart from BUPA...

Well, drain's sorted. No more raw sewage leaking down the garden path, always a good thing, I feel. Rather complex process though due to misunderstandings between Thames Water, Norwich Union and their appointed engineers. End result nonetheless is drain unblocked, no insurance claim need be made and Thames Water and Norwich Union can argue about who pays for the job - seems despite what they told me, it was indeed Thames Water's responsiblity - something about an "Ex section 24 sewer" meaning there's a public sewer under the grounds of a property built before 1937. Still, it means I know the magic phrase to shout at them if the problem ever recurs! Hell, even the drainage engineer was happy as it seems he gets a cash bonus every time he finds one of these. Of course, there is the mildly concerning matter of Thames Water apparently not knowing where all their sewers are.

Just grateful the problem was sorted before my conference calls with the US this afternoon. Wouldn't have cared to explain why I had to drop out of the call...

Also had to speak to an agent today who was recruiting for telecoms and media strategy consulting post. Shame, sounded quite interesting. Still, might yet benefit from it. He asked if I knew anyone who'd fit and stressed their finder's fees were very good!

Scanner's also well and truly brown bread, despite much prodding. Oh well, it's had a good innings. Need to replace it ASAP though - I have Starbuck and BSG photos that need scanning!

Anyway, looks like tomorrow's Ragnar Anchorage meeting will be just three of us - a few dropped out due to overspending at Collectormania GMEX. Weird thing is all three of us are Terra Nostrans. Anyway, we figure we'll probably gatecrash the Starfury con pub meet!

I was thinking of going airsofting at Urban Assault on Sunday but got a pile of work to do as I juggle transition to new job so barring a breakthrough on the work front (rather unlikely) or a collapse in will power (much more likely), I guess I'll have to pass.

Oh, and like a sheep, my results from the SF crew quiz:

You scored as Babylon 5 (Babylon 5). The universe is erupting into war and your government picks the wrong side. How much worse could things get? It doesnâ??t matter, because no matter what you have your friends and youâ??ll do the right thing. In the end that will be all that matters. Now if only the Psi Cops would leave you alone.
