Less than a week to go now. I am SHORT!!!!
There does seem to be a strong prospect of follow-on work, much of which would involve me and a return visit but I've also been told I am wanted back in UK by mid- to late-October latest as there's now a UK sales director and things will gear up on the UK business development front. Still, another trip out here would not be unthinkable - it'd let me do that overnight trip to Corregidor for a start ;-)
Tally of fake cannabis plants in the office now stands at 11. Hell, yesterday we found 5 of them in the Executive Area alone! This does beg the question: who started to manufacture plastic weed plants and why?!?
Here we go again: had to review a proposal from a content provider. A provider of, yes, "adult content". Amused by how every category description in their content portfolio finishes off with "world and Czech Top Pornstar galleries comming (sic) soon!"!
BSG uniform's been delayed yet again. Now supposed to be ready on Saturday. Woe betide them if it isn't...
Hoping to get down to Camp Aguinaldo/Camp Crame this Saturday too. Not only is there a couple of police and military museums, it's also the site where the historic EDSA/People Power revolution kicked off. That there's supposed to be shops there which are likely to stock the Special Action Force Nintendoflage I'm after is neither here nor there.
Trying hard not to get too frustrated at the thought of missing the multi-period re-enactment event at Detling this weekend.
Belated thoughts on SG-1's cancellation
Can't honestly say I felt very much when I heard. In theory, SG-1 should have been my dream TV series - military-themed SF. Assault rifles and aliens! And, yet, while, at it's best, good fun, it never captured my heart in the same way that the likes of B7, B5, BSG, Farscape, Buffy, Angel and Firefly did. It just seemed to lack the cohesiveness and consistency those others did - a sense of building up into a bigger storyline (nothing challenges B5 for that though!).
Way I figure it, 10 years is a damned good innings and it's been clearly past its best for a while (leading to many cruel comments on my part about watching paint dry/dry paint). I wasn't distraught when Buffy and Angel were cancelled either - I was glad to see them finish on a reasonably high note rather than drag on embarassingly like The X-Files. I'd rather have fewer but better and more consistent seasons. The wailing and gnashing of teeth (let alone rending of garments) I reserve for programmes unfairly cancelled before their time e.g. Space: Above And Beyond, Ultraviolet, Firefly, Farscape but at least, with the latter two, we got Serenity and Peacekeeper War to bring some closure to the story. Even with Farscape, I could still also see why it was cancelled - it had become too impenetrable to all but the most dedicated viewers (probably means I've been in my line of work too long...).
In other words, it's been mostly fun (and given me a good excuse to cart large quantities of weaponry to conventions) but this feels like the right thing to do. There's still Atlantis but that's not really grabbed my attention much. Now, if someone cancels BSG, then there *will* be trouble... Frak yeah.
