Dragon
All packed up, ready to head off in the morning.

Picked out a Dell PC for Mum. Next assignment – now been asked by Kate to help spec out an upgrade for her PC (no rest for the wicked. Or the geeky). About time I started thinking about my next PC upgrade too. Mmmm... one of those dual core Athlon 64s would be nice!

Am also now registered for Serenity 3. Trying hard not to think about call charges incurred with the multiple attempts to get through that went to voicemail, never mind the actual call with Sean. Ah, who cares? I’m registered!

Oh you'll never guess. We're not going to Glasgow now. :D

Bring armour.

I may or may not be joking...

Really? Why's that?

BTW, I am noted for bringing lots of guns to cons ;-)
9th-Jan-2006 05:33 pm (UTC)
We know more people going to London, it turns out. 'ray!
9th-Jan-2006 05:59 pm (UTC)
Cool. I'll pack at least one kevlar helmet as well as the guns then :-) Heh. I could always dig up the British Army wooley pully for the Initiative look ;-)

Hmmmm, If you are at LOTNA this week, might bend your ear about computers. Need an idea what sort of budget/mid range hardware I should be looking at. Hopefully am getting a new computer in the next couple of months, but I'm totally out of touch with what's available now!
9th-Jan-2006 05:57 pm (UTC)
Yep, miracle of miracles, I should be at LOTNA this weekend!

When is Serenity 3? That's the London based con, right?
9th-Jan-2006 05:56 pm (UTC)
Yep. Serenity 3 is 15-17 Sep in London!

Wow. That'd be a shame. Hard to imagine being at a con you're not at! Heh. I guess I do have a risk of con clashes with ECW events too, just not aware of any yet. Cons or pike and musket? What a choice...

September, and you're booking your tickets already? Is that necessary?

Are there any Firefly/Serenity cons in London before then?
15th-Jan-2006 12:13 pm (UTC)
No, it's not necessary. There are, however, some advantages to booking early, like getting through autograph queues faster, chances of getting into the guest meet-and-greet session and so on. I know I am going to go so I might as well book early.

I'm not aware of any Serenity/Firefly events in London before then, alas. Serenity 4 is going to be one in Glasgow round about the same time (prob +/- 1-2 weeks) though.

So is it going to be quite a good one, Serenity 3? Lots of guests confirmed?
15th-Jan-2006 04:28 pm (UTC)
Well, every Starfury con I've been to has been a lot of fun. This has been especially true of the Serenity ones. At the moment, there's only three confirmed guests (Jewel Staite, Sean Maher and Mark Sheppard) but this is normal for this stage of a con. More should get announced as the con approaches but this is one of the downsides of registering early: you're taking a risk on the lineup. However, Sean Harry has always delivered excellent guest lineups to date, with the Serenity cons so far both having had a substantial portion of the main cast present.

Short answer is it should be, based on past track records...

Mhmm.. interesting.

/ Is thinking about going to a con.
15th-Jan-2006 04:52 pm (UTC)
They can be a lot of fun. Main thing, I think, is to be there in good company and be sociable. You may have noticed the exchange with kezbat above. I met her and her friend Nicola at Serenity 1 just because they happened to be seated at the same table as us on the Sunday evening!

Might also want to take a look at a comment I made to cirieno at the foot of this page.

Can you give me a link for Serenity 3 please? I assume there's an associated website?
15th-Jan-2006 10:13 pm (UTC)
Sure, go to http://www.starfury.co.uk, on the front page there's a panel with a link to Serenity 3 details, such as they are at present. Good hunting.

Thanks old chap.
15th-Jan-2006 12:15 pm (UTC)
Oh, one other thing: there was also a one week window for attendees of Serenity 2 to book before tickets went on sale. Figured I'd take advantage of that!
9th-Jan-2006 07:41 pm (UTC)
I have a spiffy new AMD dual-core and it hasn't put a foot wrong yet, thoroughly recommended. I wouldn't advise going to Win64 yet though (I'm about to go back to 32) as there really is barely anything that takes advantage of the 64-bit capabilities and a mass of drivers yet to be written.

Also, Samphirette and I are considering going to the Serenity con. Can you sell us on the idea?
11th-Jan-2006 11:36 am (UTC)
Thanks, yeah, I'd pretty much reached that conclusion about 64-bit XP.

Re: S3. I guess you'll both be familiar by now with the generic pros and cons of conventions so I'll stick to Serenity-specific things:
  • It's a Starfury con - they're always fun, especially the evening parties
  • The Firefly fanbase seems to be rather more mature than Angel, Buffy or SG-1 ones so fewer hormonal or gushing types in the talks. Even the weird Americans at S1 who felt the need to prefix any question with a long bio seemed missing from S2
  • I suspect Serenity cons have a limited lifespan. With just 14 episodes, a film and little prospect of a sequel, there's not too many fresh guests for cons to keep drawing audiences
