I am a sheep. Baa! Baa!

So, I'd decided I had to pass on fencing last night. Too much to get cleared work-wise and get ready con-wise. I texted Kate and Jo to let them know. I got a text back from the former saying "U big wendy" and, suddenly, I had this massive urge to be stabbing people with swords. Will power? What's that? Sigh. Think I'll be doing at least some work from my hotel room...

To add insult to injury, when I got there, the first thing Kate said was "I was expecting a *bit* more of a struggle!" Still, glad I went in. Had a good night. Beat both Rob and Trevor. Either would be noteworthy, both in the same evening is unprecedented. Trevor was particularly keen to impress on me that I was clearly doing something different because the one attack he used to be able to count on pulling off on me hadn't worked. Nice but wish I knew what I was doing differently, bar not extending as far or as fast as elbow's still a bit painful. Hmm... also appear to have a couple of vivid bruises (they don't normally show up on me) but have no idea who dealt them.

Good time at the pub afterwards too, mostly chatting to Kate: she mentioned she and a friend had played an interesting mental game, inspired by the mass wiping of Doctor Who tapes in the 70s. The question was, if you were to preserve just 10 episodes of Blake's 7, which ones would you pick? The interesting thing is first pass resulted in less than 10 (kind of impressed/scared she appeared to be able to recite all 52 episode titles in order...) which I thought was a better class of problem, easier to then pick out a few more. Then she said to try a similar exercise with (new) Galactica and I immediately saw her point. Even with just 23 episodes plus the mini, the thought of picking 10 was mind-bending. Hell, the only thing I could be sure of was that 33 would have to be one of them!

Another interesting comment was that she would consider going to a Galactica con, a pretty unprecedented statement. Heh. Fresh souls! Fresh souls! OTOH, I'll believe it when I see her at registration...

However, I may have set a bad precedent. I said I was unlikely to make fencing on Monday due to meetings in Sunbury. She responded with stirring motions... She's also threatening early hours texts when she comes off shift from Children In Need to see if con-goers really do stay up as late as claimed...

Ah well, time to load up the car and get to Heathrow!
